BLOG : Tips for Finding the Right Personal Assistant

When you want to find a new PCA, there are several avenues to explore:  word-of-mouth (asking friends and family members), posting a flyer in a community center, or using the Internet.  I prefer the Internet because it is fast and reaches a lot of people.  I use www.craigslist.com, www.backpage.com, and www.classifiedads.com.  There's usually a fee.  Post your ad under General Labor, not Medical/Health, for two reasons: (1) more people will see your ad if you list it under General Labor, and (2) a CDPAP does not require that your employee has specialized training or licensure.  You will be providing all the necessary training.  Personally, I prefer that the applicant does not have any prior experience.  I don't want someone who comes to the job with expectations or preconceived notions.  The best applicant for me is a blank slate upon which I can construct a really good PCA.
